若い学生を前にして、死を語ったジョブズは勇気があるよね。普段の生活で死を語ることはなかなか無い。でも大事だと思う。なんで生きているのかに通じるから。日本語でも言いにくいことだからこそ、今回のジョブズのスピーチを見て欲しい。先日お葬式に出て人生について考えるモードになったんだけど、今日久しぶりに顔見知りの人に会って、「お母さんは最近いかがですか？」って聞いたら、She passed away って言われて絶句してしまった🤦♀️ しんみりとお母さんの最期をいろいろうかがいました。
This was the closest I’ve been to facing death, and I hope it’s the closest I get for a few more decades. Having lived through it, I can now say this to you with a bit more certainty than when death was a useful but purely intellectual concept:
No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true.

死が有用でありながら単なる知的概念にすぎない場合に比べれば
death is the destination we all share.
死は私たち全員が行き着く場所です
We all share の言い方が便利
It is Life’s change agent.
生を変える起爆剤です
you will gradually become the old and be cleared away.
誰しもだんだん年を取りいなくなります
死 という言葉を避けてうまく言ってるね😀
〈だいたいの訳〉
これは、これまで経験した中で最も死に近い経験であり、今後数十年の間、こういうことが無いように願っています。この経験を経て、死が有用ですが純粋に知的概念でしかなかった頃よりも、少しだけ確信を持って言えるようになりました。
死にたい人はいません。天国に行きたいと思っている人でさえ、そこに行くために死ぬことを望んでいません。しかし、死は私たち全員が共有する目的地です。誰もそれから逃れられません。なぜなら、死はおそらく生命が生み出した最高の発明だからです。それは人生の変化をもたらすものです。死は古いものを取り除き、新しいものへの道を開く。今はあなた方は若いですが、そう遠くないいつか、あなたは徐々に年を取り、一掃されるでしょう。大げさに言って申し訳ありませんが、本当のことなのです。
